Hex Values
November 22, 2004

When adding colors on the internet you can often simply type in "red" or "green" or "yellow" into the appropriate tag to get what you want. If you want to get more specific, or if you want to change the colors in this layout, then you are going to need to type in a hex value.

Hex Values are simple six character codes of sometimes letters and sometimes numbers and sometimes both letters and numbers that are assigned to a specific shade of a color.

For example #000000 is black and #FFFFFF is white, both of which will either make all the graphics (black) or all the links (white) disappear so I wouldn't suggest using them. Keep in mind these numbers should be typed in sans the pound sign. To play with this some, a kind of booger green color can be achieved by typing in #999900, a pretty teal color can be gotten by typing in #66FFFF and a bright pink lipstick color can be achieved by typing in #FF0099.

Several hex color tables are available on the internet in order to make it easy find a color of your choice quickly, and without having to have an understanding of the numbering system. Webmonkey has one available. So does Visbone, theirs also shows a Decimal RGB color code table, which is yet another way to show colors that is becoming more and more popular. Those codes do not work on this form and will cause the colors on this site to default to indigo.

So switch up the colors, find a favorite or three, or just change whenever the mood strikes, a cookie has already been set on your computer which will automatically pull up the last color you had set. Or if you want you can stay in that one default color (#8275BA) and never experience any others. But, hey, what would be the fun in that?
